DAVENPORT GOES EAST!
Davenport Development has made a name for itself building affordable, high-end homes in and around George Town and South Sound and has now set its sights on East End. This is the company's first eastern venture and is something new. Rather than a residential community, Altamar—currently in the planning stages—will be a large oceanfront resort managed by a local team.
Conceived as a family-friendly, casual, and unpretentious vacation destination, the developers expect it will appeal both to North American sun-and-sea enthusiasts and to locals seeking a staycation where peace, tranquility, and a slow pace of life reign supreme.
Altamar will be a significant boon for a district that currently boasts just two resorts and will give visitors (and locals) another reason to explore the charms of this wilder side of Grand Cayman.
“East End is a beautiful, unspoiled, and relatively undeveloped part of the island that we absolutely love,” says Paul Pearson, co-founder of Davenport Development.“We are committed to ensuring any development there is responsible and sustainable, and we’re looking forward to being able to create more jobs for Caymanians.”
THE RESORT
Located at the end of High Rock Road on the ocean side of Sea View Road, Altamar will span nine acres and will be comprised of eight separate buildings designed in traditional Caribbean style with pitched roofs, West Indian balcony railings, and shaded porches. Each building will accommodate eight guest accommodations, which will include rooms – some interconnecting with kitchenettes for families – and larger suites with full kitchens and living rooms. All rooms and suites will enjoy ocean views, and ground-floor accommodations will also have private patios.
AMENITIES
The main resort buildings are positioned around three sides of a vast infinity-edge pool, which has become Davenport’s trademark. The pool will be sensational: larger than an Olympic-size pool, it will have plenty of length for lap swimmers, sunbathing shelves and hot tubs for leisure seekers, a kids’ area for little ones, plus fountains and planters for a little extra ‘wow.’
The resort includes a reception lobby, restaurant, and bar, and at the water’s edge, a huge wooden deck over the ironshore, equipped with sun loungers and parasols. Water sports pavilions at either end of this deck will provide equipment for aquatic pursuits, and steps down to the sea will enable guests to swim and snorkel directly in front of the resort.
Guests will also have use of a large gym, a tennis court, and an outdoor yoga space. Packages for scuba diving will be available through the nearby dive operator, Ocean Frontiers.
